Governor John Bel Edwards
Governor John Bel Edwards is scheduled to join us at the time-honored LYS presentation of Louisiana: A Dream State on Wednesday, July 20. LYS has had U.S. Senators and Congressmen and several Lieutenant Governors and state legislators speak. But 2016 will make history for the first time a Governor is scheduled to join us.
Governor Edwards was sworn in as the 56th Governor of Louisiana this year, after serving eight years in the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 72. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Governor Edwards served as an Airborne Ranger with the United States Army before setting up his own civil law practice in Amite.
Jay Dardenne
Jay Dardenne - former Lieutenant Governor and current Commissioner of Administration for the State of Louisiana - will speak at Opening Convocation on Sunday, July 17.
Prior to serving as Louisiana’s Lt. Governor, Mr. Dardenne served as our Secretary of State for four years and as a State Senator for 15 years. Mr. Dardenne is a long-time supporter of LYS. And he was the recipient of the 2013 LYS Life Achievement Award in honor of Roddy Richard.
Jeremy Alford
Jeremy Alford - LYS delegate alum and publisher and editor of LaPolitics.com and LaPolitics Weekly - will join us as he is honored with the LYS “No Man is An Island” delegate alum award at Opening Convocation. Mr. Alford is a popular political commentator who is a regular guest on radio and television news programs, having served as an analyst-source for CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, C-SPAN and NPR. His work appears regularly in The New York Times and he has been published by The Dallas Morning News, Associated Press and Campaigns & Elections magazine.
Donald Cravins, Jr.
Donald Cravins, Jr. - former State Senator and Representative, Staff Director and Chief Counsel for the United States Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and LYS Program Director - will speak at our Political Party Kickoff on Monday, July 18. Mr. Cravins is the National Urban League’s Senior Vice President for Policy and Executive Director of the Washington Bureau. He also serves as a captain of the Washington, DC Army National Guard Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, as well as an adjunct professor at George Washington University, where he teaches Prosecution and Litigation in Intellectual Property.
