Representative Chris Broadwater addressed the delegation at the Political Party kickoff this morning. His bio is below:
Representative Chris Broadwater was first elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2011. He serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Labor and Industrial Relations Committee, and also serves on the Ways and Means Committee, Education Committee, House Select Leadership Committee, Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay, House Executive Committee and is Chairman of the House Fiscal Note Review Committee.
He is a graduate of the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert School of Law (Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Civil Law), New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Louisiana College (B.A. in Sociology/Family Life Studies).
In 2008, he was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor/Director of the Louisiana Office of Workers Compensation where he spearheaded significant reforms of the workers compensation system. After his election, Representative Broadwater joined the law firm of Cashe, Coudrain and Sandage in Hammond, Louisiana where his practice is focused in the areas of Employment Law, Workers Compensation and Insurance Defense.
Chris currently serves on the National Board of Directors of Jobs For America’s Graduates, is a member of the Labor and Economic Development Committee of the National Conference of State Legislators, a member of The Council of State Governments Legal Task Force and a member of the advisory policy board for the Comprehensive Public Training Program for State employees.
He has been recognized as Legislator of the Year by the Louisiana State Troopers Association (2013 and 2014), Legislative Champion for Healthcare by the Louisiana Hospital Association (2015), Legislative Champion for Economic Development by the Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association (2013), Legislator of the Year by the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association (2014), recipient of the Guardian Angel Award by the National Federation of Independent Business (2014), Recipient of the 2016 Chairman's Award by the Chamber of Southwest Louisiana and Recipient of the 2016 Jobs For America’s Graduates National Leadership Award.
Chris and his wife, Hilaria, have 4 daughters.
